What animals am I most likely to see?
This is the bush and you can never rely on seeing anything. Having said that, you are most likely to see Kudu, Giraffe, Springbok, Impala and Gemspok as well as Kori Bustard’s, Secretary Bird’s,Vultures and Eagles most days with many other animals and birds resident and seen often across Kanana. In the bush anything is possible; the spoor (tracks) of animals such as Leopard and Cheetah will give you the best clues as to the species and quantities.
Is Kanana in a Malaria area? The Ghanzi disctrict is considered to be a low risk Malaria zone. What type of shops are available in Ghanzi?
4 supermarkets including Spar and Choppies, Chemists, Doctors, Craft Shops and a Post Office.
How many fuel stations are there in Ghanzi?
One Shell garage with a small shop, but soon to be three.

What is the difference between Kanana Wilderness and Motswiri Lodge?
Kanana Wilderness is the name given to the entire 33,000 Ha private game reserve and Motswiri Lodge is the actual Lodge with luxury accommodation situated in the heart of Kanana Wilderness.
What is the best time of year to come to Kanana?
May/June/July/August – are the coldest months, June and July are generally very cold, especially at night. May and August tend to be warm during the day and cold at night. The bush is sparse and dry and lends itself to good game viewing.
September/October/November – are warm, but can be quite dry. The weather is generally quite pleasant, however if the rains are late, then it will be dry and the greenery will be limited.
December/January/February – are usually the wettest months and also the hottest. Temperatures can get up to 40 degrees C. Nearly all of our annual rainfall comes in this period, and generally comes in the form of late afternoon thunderstorms.
March / April – The temperature reduces a little bit and the rain generally continues. The veldt is very green and the animals are all fat and healthy. However as there is more bush game viewing is not easy.
As for the best time of year, that is up to personal preference.

26 kms from Ghanzi airport, but there is also a registered airstrip at Kanana Wilderness.
Does Ghanzi airport have immigration and customs facilities?
No, but they are available in Ghanzi town and will attend the airport by appointment.

The main house has a broadband connection which can be made available to guests if needed.

No – but care must be taken when approaching white rhino as with all wild animals.

Around 250 mm mostly January to March.
How hot does it get?
It can reach 40 in summer (November/December) but low humidity.
How cold does it get?
It can get to -2 June / July but this is quite unusual.

Do you hunt on Kanana?
Commercial hunting has ceased on Kanana. Running an operation of this magnitude and managing the game requires a small measure of humane culling, this is only carried out by the Kanana Management.If you wish to hunt, there are plenty of hunting farms in and around the Ghanzi district. As a service, the Kanana Management company will be able to source and book the best hunting opportunities in the area.
What does Kanana mean?
Kanana is Setswana for “canaan” from the bible - and means land of milk and honey
Is there enough water?
There is a plethora of ground water. The ground water is potable which means that there is more than enough water.
What other animals is Kanana going to purchase?
We will continue to develop Kanana by supplementing our existing species, with new bloodlines. This involves annual game capture and release programs. We will also investigate the possibility of introducing new species where it is economically viable and within the legal parameters of our region.
