Maps of Kanana

Kanana Location (click for pdf)

This PDF gives you an understanding of where Kanana is relative to the immediate surroundings of Ghanzi.

The map illustrates the size of Kanana and where it fits into the net work of farms in the west of the Ghanzi District. It also gives you an understanding of the shape and layout of the reserve.

Layout of Kanana

This illustration shows where the Wilderness zone is in comparison with the residential area. The green blocks are the individual plots, which will in time become individual private lodges. The existing commercial camp is the area allocated to Motswiri Lodge, the only commercial lodge on the reserve.

Plant Habitats

This map shows the plant habitats within the residential part of Kanana. Once you have had a look at an area, you should check it out on the interactive map, which allows you to zoom in closer enough to look at pans, large trees and other significant features.

The significance of this illustration is that the Kalahari, has a distinctly varied plant habitat; giving grounds to the theory that it really is not a desert at all!

It is interesting to note that the habitats tend to be set in drifts going from east to west. This could well be because this is the way the ground water flows and the way that the calcrete layers are formed.

Tree Density

This map shows the tree density in the residential area. The tree density per hectare, gives you some understanding of what the vegetation is like.

The residential plots are generally situated where the tree density is the greatest, this helps to absorb visual and noise impacts, helping the area maintain its wilderness edge!

The ground water is also generally strongest in the same area that the heavy tree density is greatest, this means that the plots will be well supplied with H2O
